The inaugural ceremony of the "MAISON MÈRE" – The Mother house of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel in India.

On 19th May 2024, the inauguration of the Maison Mère (Mother house) of the Brothers at Tindivanam took place. It was blessed by his grace Most. Rev. Dr. Francis Kalist, The Archbishop Bishop of Puducherry & Cuddalore, Bro. Dhanaraj, the Assistant General, had Inaugurated the building. Many priests and Religious from the local parish attended the event, and a large number of Brothers from various parts of India were present for the occasion. His Excellency the Archbishop in his homily highlighted the importance of vocation to brotherhood and appreciated the Brothers' service in the education field.

 

Historically, Tindivanam is a very significant place to the Montfort Brother of St. Gabriel. The pioneers from France to the mission in India (Bro. Denis, Bro. Martin and Bro. John Baptist ) landed in Pondichery on 11 September 1903. They started teaching at the Petit Seminary High School in Pondicherry. On January 6, 1904, Bro. John Baptist came to Tindivanam which is 40 KM away from Pondicherry. Later he started the St. Joseph’s Industrial School.
